The standard key-and-lock security systems no longer fulfill today's demanding security requirements and audit reporting. The traditional key has become obsolete in facilities that require restricted access to various groups of personnel. A key can be lost, stolen, or duplicated which potentially risks a security breach. The process of changing locks and re-issuing keys is costly and time consuming. The solution is to issue an electronic "key" that can be programmed to operate specific doors based on location and time. The lost or stolen electronic "key" can easily be programmed not to operate any doors in the facility, all this with a few simple key strokes. An access controlled reader can also secure any door or room that can be secured with a traditional lock and key. With an access control system, only authorized personnel have access to a restricted area based on the time of day and day of the week. The Host computer automatically records the individual's access into the area. This allows for reports to be generated based on the individual, a group of individuals, the specific location, or the entire facility. The basic access control sub-system consist of individual coded access cards, card readers, door strikes, contact switches, and an access controller.
